Quality takes time that in the end, can lead to great things that suddenly makes time spent well worth the effort.  This is certainly the case for brand new Cape Town based alt-pop duo Emerger.  Recognising the spectacular sound of this amazing young duo, Apple Music is excited to showcase their music in the New Artist Spotlight in July.

Emma de Goede (vocals/piano) and Gerrit Matthee (producer/multi-instrumentalist) met while studying music at the University of Cape Town. Having formed Emerger during that period, the two were still honing their craft.  Emma graduated with a BMus in Jazz Performance, while Gerrit completed his BMus in Classical Composition.

Described as soundscapes of dreamy, synth-driven melodies, cinematic progressions, powerhouse pop vocals and punchy hip-hop inspired beats, Emerger has very quickly made a name for themselves. Their debut single, ‘Break & Fall’ was the winner of the Avid and Abbey Road Studios International Song Contest, picked from over 5 000 international entries.

Emerger’s recently released debut EP ‘Bloom’, was mixed by some of SA’s best engineers and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Says Emma and Gerritt (Emerger), “We are thrilled to be featured as Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight. There are so many great new artists out there and to get this feature is a true honour.  As an independent artist, it is fantastic to be able to share our music with more people on such a great platform.”
