Prince Albert, perfect spot for a romantic getaway

Going outside in this chilly and gloomy weather might not seem ideal, but winter is coming to an end and what better way to spend the last few winter days than being cosy with your loved one in a beautiful place.

Prince Albert may be hidden at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, fringed by vineyards and fruit and olive farms, but there is more to this charming Karoo village than pretty houses, quaint eateries and arty shops. It might just be the perfect place to spice up your love life during this last month of winter.

Wine and dine your partner. You will have a blast discovering new delicacies, with choices like Gay’s Guernsey Dairy Farm where you get to taste delicious cheeses and Fernskloof Wine Farm, where you can visit the tasting room daily. You can go on a hiking trail at Fernskloof beforehand if you feel like it. The gorgeous view promise to not disappoint. The town has enough restaurants for you to visit without having to go to the same place twice for a whole weekend!

Want to see the beautiful night sky in its purest form? Astro Tours offers villagers and visitors tours of the Southern Hemisphere skies and perhaps fuelling a fulfilling interest in the galaxy! This is easy with Prince Albert’s dark and clear skies.

Every quarter of the year the village hosts the Moonlight Market in the village square. Residents and visitors come together for an evening of socialising while enjoying delicious meals and refreshments from local vendors. No alcohol is sold, but you are allowed to bring your own wine. So, if you happen to plan your getaway on the weekend of the 16th, this would be the perfect place to visit on your first night.

Need a place to stay? Prince Albert has plenty of beautiful and cosy options. If you are looking for a spot that overlooks the town, Karoo View Cottages is the place to go to. It offers accommodation with views of the Swartberg Mountains and Karoo plains and will have you wake up in complete awe each morning. Each bed has an electric blanket and some rooms also have fireplaces.

End your weekend off with a couples massage at the spa of your choice, because nothing is more relaxing that getting all the tension out of your body by a trained therapist. At Health Haven and Simply Saffron you will be spoiled rotten.
