Lodges and retreats

There are some great lodges and reserves situated in the pristine nature surrounding Clanwilliam. These getaway options are bound to strike a chord with nature lovers and people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Cederberg Ridge is a luxurious wilderness lodge that offers great hospitality, delicious food, and loads of adventure. Overlooking the vista of the Cederberg mountains, guests will fall in love with the raw, rugged beauty of the area.

Oudrif is a fully catered lodge situated on the banks of the Doring River in the Cederberg. The cottages were designed to blend in with the landscape and is also completely off-grid in order to minimize their carbon footprint.

Attractions and activities

The Nardouwsberg area in the northern Cederberg plays host to one of nature’s true wonders – the annual winter explosion of wildflowers. The flowers start blooming late in July and can last into October, depending on the rain. To accompany this extraordinary feast for the eyes, the Clanwilliam Wildflower Society also hosts their annual wildflower show from Friday, 23 August until Sunday, 1 September. The Clanwilliam Wildflower Show takes place in the Flower Church at the top of the main street in Clanwilliam. This is a must-see for any and all wildflower enthusiasts.

“The flower show is created by a team of community volunteers and visitors can view between 350 and 400 plant species up close. The doors will be open daily between 08:30 and 18:00 and entrance fees are R50 for adults and R10 for children still in school,” says Sanet Stander from the Wildflower Show committee.

Those seeking adventure should definitely consider a visit to the Stadsaal Caves found high in the central Cederberg beyond Cederberg Cellars and Sanddrif. It is another must-see for Cederberg visitors and keen photographers could spend hours capturing the play of light and shadows on the open caves and rock formations.
