South Africa might be in the middle of winter, but one thing that’s sure to turn up the heat is the announcement that Tropika Island of Treasure will officially be back for a 9th season!
#TIOT9 will see six celebrities and six consumer contestants competing for their share of smoooth fame and fortune and a shared R1 million Rand in the island paradise of Curaçao.
Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, feels like a little piece of Europe on the edge of the Caribbean with glorious hidden beaches, amazing onshore snorkeling and diving, and a wild undeveloped windward coast. A picture-perfect place to serve as the backdrop for a smoooth 9th season of the hit show.
In addition to revealing the island for this season, Tropika has also just announced that auditions for #TIOT9 will take place entirely *online – a first in the history of the show, providing an opportunity for more people across South Africa to enter and stand a chance to win a spot on the island.
Anyone who is familiar with the show will know that a big part of what makes it as entertaining as it is, are the celebrities. In #TIOT9, viewers can expect to see the following familiar faces:
Simphiwe Ngema is a South African TV presenter and actress best known for her role as Thuli on the hit soapie ‘Muvangho’. The 29-year-old star was born inKlipspruit, Soweto where her passion for the entertainment industry was ignited. The star has recently explored her passion for music and released her debut single ‘Thola Khona’ under the name Quing Simz. Simphiwe is excited to be part of the new season of Tropika Island of Treasure and looks forward to taking her fans on a smoooth adventure to the island of Curaçao.
Kay Sibiya is a presenter, model, MC and an aspiring businessman who aims to fuse his love for communications and entertainment into a formidable media establishment. He first rose to fame as the co-host of SABC 1’s music magazine show ‘Sunday Chillaz’. He went on to star in Uzalo, one of the most successful soapies in the country, where he played music producer Ayanda Mdletse, who was easily one of the most recognisable faces from the series. Kay is also an avid traveler and is excited to be heading to Curaçao to explore everything the island has to offer.
Famous for her hilarious Instagram videos, Nadia Japhta is one of the most exciting new faces in the South African entertainment space and has proven that, when done right, the power of social media can take you to new heights. Nadia is also a freelance stylist, the director of the fashion label, Strada Chic, and blogger behind the South African fashion blog, Birdline Blog. She even branched into music when she released her debut single ‘Paradise’ last year. Nadia is excited to be heading to paradise on this season of Tropika Island of Treasure.
Entrepreneur and media personality Siphesihle Vazi burst onto the scene as the presenter of the hit magazine show ‘Selimathunzi’ and quickly became one of South Africa’s most loved TV personalities. Siphesihle has also starred in an exciting new role as Mthokozisi Ntuli on SABC 1’s brand new local comedy-drama ‘Makoti’. When not in front of the camera, you are more than likely to find the star at the gym. He is a fitness fanatic and is already preparing his mind and body for the brand new season of Tropika Island of Treasure.
South African actress and TV personality Ntando Duma has blossomed since her early days as a kids TV presenter and is best known for her portrayal of Zinzi Dandala on the popular TV show Rhythm City. Today, Ntando is a popular MC, TV presenter and model. She is also an avid music lover and has appeared in music videos for artists like Prince Kaybee, Vusi Nova and has even recorded a single with Babes Wodumo titled ‘Jiva Phez’kombhede’. Ntando is excited to head out to Curaçao and to show Mzansi a little bit more of who Ntando really is.
Actor and musician Bouwer Bosch kick-started his career as the lead singer of the popular Afrikaans pop/rock, SAMA-nominated group Straatligkinders, and member of the smash hit duo group Dans Dans Lisa, with Deon Meiring of the band Glaskas. Bouwer recently released an exciting new collaborative album with songstress Lucinda which shows a new, softer side to the star. When he’s not in front of the camera or in the recording booth, Bouwer also has a production company which specialises in music videos. Bouwer’s Youtube channel is one of the 100 most viewed South African channels listed in the world.
